EVERYONE MUST BE ON THE SAME PAGE! Planning is a must for small projects to large projects! Drawings can be crude, or computer images. You can even hire a licensed and insured Architect to plan your project! Most remodeling projects do not require an architect though, and we want you to have a good understanding of the project, as the inspectors, workers, and even your homeowners association! A Picture is worth a thousand words- We have all heard this before, but seeing is believing when planning future construction projects. Problems as simple as a door swinging the wrong way can be avoided with proper drawings. Not all projects require drawings. Roofing, siding, window replacements, normally do not require drawings. Some items must be drawn to obtain that permit though.
Changing the footprint of your home, means to build outside of the original planned foundation area, such as an addition, or even simply enlarging a deck. Those drawings and dimensions are ultimately transferred and compared to your plat to be certain all restrictions are met. This is hours and hours of work, before the first hole can be dug, or the first board is installed! Some municipal inspectors require up to 2 weeks to review a plan, and there is a fee for that, even before the permit is approved.

Measurements alone don't always show the intent of a project size. Here two cars are shown, with one closer to the stairs which helps everyone to have a better idea of the actual size of this space.
